Adam Wynn

Most of my professional career has been in sports media, both in written media and radio broadcast.  I spent three years as the sports editor of a small newspaper in the metro-Atlanta area, after which time I had a stint as an on-air personality with WRFC 960 AM The Ref, sports talk radio in Athens, GA.

I have written for various other publications on matters of faith, sports, and pop culture.  I have been printed in the Christian Index and a short-lived pop culture website called GeekSmash.com. 

My first love, however, has always been fiction.  My debut novel, Black Star, is a Western with a dark twist.  As of February 2022, you can purchase your very own copy of Black Star right now from Amazon.com.  You can read a collection of short stories I wrote called The Call of the Mountains: And Other Tales of the Bizarre through Amazon's Kindle Reader or through purchasing a paperback copy. 

I've also delivered sermons to churches of various sizes and spoken to groups of adults and young learners alike about topics of faith, sports, and journalism.  If your group is looking for a speaker, I would be happy to come if we can make it work.

I had a pretty solid 24 hours when it comes to taking pictures. As I was leaving work Thursday afternoon, I saw a group of people staring up into a tree with their phones out. My gut reaction was, “This is weird,” even though part of me knew there had to be something in that tree. I asked one girl, “What are y’all looking at?” She said, “There’s an owl.” I said “Where?” She said, “You’re looking right at it.” Not the most helpful answer, but it was true. There was a beautiful light brown owl on a branch of that tree just staring back at us. I did get to see it swoop and fly around once, which was really cool for me, but decidedly less cool for the poor girl in the bench when it flew within a foot of her head. Then Thursday night, I managed to snap a few shots of the Northern Lights in north Georgia, which is so rare that it hasn’t happened since May. I know everyone is sick of lights images, but I had to get mine. Either way, there was one nagging thought in my mind. “Man, I wish I’d been able to get some shots of that owl with my good camera.” Well, as luck would have it, there was a guy standing under a tree right outside my office window this morning with his phone out. And I knew right away. I immediately went in and got my camera, then started snapping pictures. I’m quite proud of this morning’s owl photos! It really is a beautiful creature, and I got to spend all day checking up on it from my office window. At one point, I could see it sleeping. So yeah. On Monday afternoon, I got an Instagram message from The @joshabbottband, which was kinda odd. Why is a band sending me a message on Instagram? When I opened the message up, they said that I’d won tickets to their show in Athens this week. Y’all, when I say that I had completely forgotten about entering this contest, I mean completely forgotten. It took me a second to even remember what contest I’d won. But I won, meaning I got two free tickets to the show tonight at the famous Georgia Theater right here in blessed Athens, GA. And it could not have been better timed. I’ve been working a lot of nights lately, meaning I don’t get too many evenings with Ivey and the boys. Getting to take @iveywynn out on the town, with an excellent dinner at Trappeze, was a highlight for sure. Then we got to actually go meet the band before the show, which was incredible. I assumed we’d be meeting in the green room or something, but the tour manager texted me and told me we’d be going on the bus. It was an absolutely amazing experience getting to meet with the band on their tour bus and just talking for a bit. Especially when Josh Abbott said something about Georgia still being the best team in the country (Go Dawgs!), so that was fun. Then the show started and we got to see a local Athens kid, @johnswilley, play the first set. He was great. And then Josh Abbott Band came on, bringing that signature Texas Country that I love. So many great songs, and a few I hadn’t heard before. It was an amazing show! Thanks for coming back to the Georgia Theater, and thanks for so graciously hosting Ivey and me before the show.
